A Day In The Life Of…….
A Day In The Life Of….
Me.
I thought of changing this page title, but decided better and stuck to the original, hoping to answer it somewhat intelligently….
First, some background info.
I will be 48 next month [June '07]
I have been in not-so-great health since 1993 [14 years ago] I have chronic Lyme Disease [since '93],I suffer from Chronic Migraines [the type that makes you blind], I am in remission from stage 3 skin cancer [Dx'd in 4/'04], I am a diabetic [type 2 since '05], I suffer from numerous neurological complaints and I am currently pursuing a diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis.
That covers the basics…. I really just wanted to mention this up front so when you read ‘A day In The Life Of…’ you may understand why it is fairly boring and sedentary.
How do I normally start my day?
I roll out of bed at around 5:00AM, not necessarily because I want to, but I have to. Pain wakes me up. My puppy never wakes up this early, he simply crawls into the warm spot I just vacated and sleeps for another 2-3 hours. [Lazy ass dawg]
Coffee…always the first thing I do. Folgers Breakfast Blend or Colombian with Carnation French Vanilla Creamer. [I make some mean mornin' java]

Cigarette…always the second thing I do.
Yeah! Ya know what? I don’t wanna hear it from the reformed smokers or the ‘never-was-a-smoker’ drum beaters out there. I was born a smoker, will die a smoker. That’s just the way it is. I enjoy smoking. Period!

Bathroom, coffee’s done, have a cuppa and another smoke. Read the Daily News.
Get 16 year old out of bed by 6:35AM
Say bye to hubby….go down the list of sh*t he needs for the day, he envariably forgets something every morning.
Make sure 16 yr old actually got out of the bed.
Take morning meds…some for high blood pressure, some for diabetes, some for cholesterol, nerve pain, pain pain, injection for diabetes [it hurts but it works]….
[that's me, the human pincushion and I've got the bruises on my belly to prove it.]
Drive 16 yr old to bus stop or school [depends on how late she's running on any given day...and these days she strives to be late, because then she gets to drive to school
]
Go home. Think about breakfast. I HATE to eat breakfast and I always have to think about it before I do it. Many mornings you will catch me having leftover salad or a bowl of soup. I hate cereal, waffles, eggs, toast…not a morning person by any stretch of the imagination…My Mom actually wrote that in my Baby Book!
Turn on the PC. Really start my day.

I always read mail first, I have 3 accounts I use and check religiously. Which is kinda wierd, because I am not an overly religious person heh heh.
Answer important/urgent emails. The rest can wait. [I always answer emails from my Mom, sibs or kids asap.]
Open my blog pages. Check for comments. Usually write my first morning blog post by 8:15 AM [maybe 8:30]…then several more throughout the day.
By this time I am thinking about another cup of coffee or a snack, like maybe a nice apple.[I hate apple peels so I peel the apple then slice it before I eat it...Yeah. I've heard it before...picky bitch]
Some days by this time, I am ready to go back to bed for a 2 hour nap. Exhaustion beats me down on a regular basis. If I don’t feel like writing, or don’t feel the absolute need for sleep, I might attempt doing some dreaded housework. I do the light stuff, wash some dishes, throw in a load of wash, fill the dishwasher, wipe down a bathroom, make the beds…the heavier stuff goes to hub-nut and teenager.
If I have an appointment [almost always of the medical type] I ALWAYS schedule them for first thing in the morning, because they always take until almost lunchtime to finally finish with me. [I use that word a lot *always*]
Appointment days truly do exhaust me and I always need a nap. [there I go using that word again]
I write for a few websites and often get requests so I usually spend an hour or sometimes two a day writing for these sites/groups. Some times I get the day off from this and I NEVER use my weekends on requests, strictly Mon thru Fri.
Between 11AM and 1PM I will have something for lunch. I eat a lot of soup [Progresso]

After lunch I take more nerve pain medication [Neurontin] and make some ice tea for the afternoon. If I did laundry earlier, I throw it in the dryer.
I let my ferrets out for playtime. They usually come out after lunch because they both sleep their mornings away. They have to have separate play times or play areas because they do not play well together.

Rocky always beats everyone else up. I am down to just 2 ferrets at this time. I lost 3 in 3 years [Mike, Al & Sunny] We have Rocky and Sammy Tsunami. When I am done with these two I won’t get anymore. Yeah! I’ve heard what they say…”Once you go ferret you never go back…” not necessarily true.
Greg and I are planning on doing some traveling after Erica leaves for college, and we don’t want to have to board or travel with ferrets. It will be enough to travel with a 25 pound dog, [Andy, pictured below at 5 months]

Yes, we have a dream of RV’ing across this great land of ours, and maybe even parts of Canada.
Okay, where was I? Oh, Yes. The ferrets are playing. Most times I will let Sammy play in my room with the door shut, there’s not much he tries to get into. Although he usually poops in a corner even tho’ there are 2 litter boxes in there for him. Which he usually empties for me by laying in the litter box and shoving the litter out frantically with all four paws and his entire body! He is very sick with advanced adrenal disease and I will probably lose him by Christmas this year.
Rocky stays closer to home, he likes to hang out in my office. He lounges. A lot. He doesn’t like other animals, although he did seem to really like my cat [KiKi died last November at age 19].
They are usually ready to go back to their cages by 3PM for a nice long nap. [ferrets sleep up to 20 hours a day] By 3 I am exhausted, but I usually push myself and take Andy for a walk and go get the days mail. Most days i come back empty handed because our idiot mail delivery person keeps changing so we are lucky to get our mail after dinner sometime. We had a regular mailman [Jesse Creech...How's that for North Carolina born and bred] but Jesse retired this year after nearly 50 years of devotion to the USPS. What did he get for all thos years? Some folks in the neighborhood threw him a get-together at Golden Corral. [Oh! Big WHOOP! No gold watch???]
By 3:45 I am leaving the house, with the dog, to pick Erica up either at school or bus stop. As I mentioned earlier, she now prefers to stay after so she can be picked up at school so she can drive home. Ahhh…to be 16 again [nah! I don't think so!]
By this time I usually HAVE to lay down because my legs are beat. And exhaustion is winning the battle I’ve been waging all day long.
So, I lay down for a little while then I get up to make dinner. Greg will call me when I am laying down ALL THE TIME. I have searched for the hidden camera in my room, but can’t seem to locate it. How does he know I am laying down??? He doesn’t call on the days I am able to skip the afternoon power nap. [??wtf??]
We have dinner, Erica and I clean the kitchen and we try to agree on what to watch for that night’s television viewing. We never seem to agree on just one show so we all end up in 3 different rooms with three different TV sets on 3 different stations watching 3 different shows.
I have a little 5 inch color tv on my desk, I don’t watch much TV although I am a die hard SURVIVOR FAN.
And I am kinda excited about the new reality show coming up May 31st in the SURVIVOR timeslot [Thurs 8PM-EST] PIRATE MASTER. I plan to watch this one.
The only other show I watch on a regular basis is THE AMAZING RACE.
After dinner everyone watched TV, we usually snack around 8PM. Greg is done by 9PM…he usually falls asleep on the sofa until I nudge him and send him to bed, the dog goes with him.
I am usually up until after 11PM just because somebody has to make sure Erica goes to bed at a decent hour. [Hey! At least she's not sneaking into my office to use my PC after I've gone to sleep.] If I am lucky I am in bed by midnight.
And that was a day in the life of….me.
